'˜Everybody Loves Raymond' actress Doris Roberts dies
Tributes have been paid to Roberts by her on-screen son, Ray Romano, in the series which ran from 1996 to 2005. He said she “had an energy and a spirit that amazed me”.
He added: “She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”

Hide AdPatricia Heaton, who played Marie’s daughter-in-law, Debra, said it was “truly the end of an era”.
“My wonderful TV mother-in-law and (Everbody Loves Raymond) nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much,” she said.
“She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. It was truly a privilege.”
Roberts, born in St Louis and brought up in New York, was awarded five Emmys over her career, the first in 1983 for her role ‘St Elsewhere’. She was also seen in 1980s TV detective series ‘Remington Steele’.

Hide AdHer early TV appearances included episodes of Studio One, The Naked City and The Defenders and she appeared in several films, including The Rose, Madea’s Witness Protection and The Taking of Pelham 123.
Roberts was also a familiar face on Broadway, beginning her stage career in the 1950s with appearances in he Last of the Red Hot Lovers and Bad Habits.
A spokeswoman said the actress, who was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003, died in her sleep Los Angeles overnight on Sunday.
