Morecambe shoe firm puts best foot forward to mark 20 years
Staff at Briggs officially toast 20 years of trading at their Marine Road Central shop this month. The Briggs family have been selling quality shoes since 1863, and the business was first established by the current owner’s great, great grandfather – who began his trade as a shoemaker on Penny Street in Lancaster.
The company opened its first Morecambe store as K Shoemines on Regent Road in 1985, moving to the larger premises on the promenade in 1997.

Hide AdTom Powney, joint owner of Briggs, said: “Celebrating 20 years of our promenade store offers the perfect opportunity for us to thank our customers over the years.
“It’s down to their loyal support that we’ve seen the company flourish, especially over the last three years. Six generations of the Briggs family have worked for the business and I believe one of the reasons why we’ve been lucky to build a loyal customer base is because they recognise that we’re proud to be a local, family-run firm, and it’s our knowledge and experience that make us different.
“We’re passionate about service and ensuring our customers get a product to suit their lifestyle. That is why our customers come back year after year.”
Briggs’ Morecambe store has been completely remodelled in the last three years, and the shop offers an extensive range of classically fashionable shoes, designed to combine style, value and comfort. Brands include Rieker, Skechers, Fitflop, Josef Seibel, Padders and Ara. In 2013, the company opened a large fashion department, bringing brands such as Roman Originals, Tigiwear and Classic to the town for the first time.

Hide AdTom, who is also on the steering group for Morecambe BID, added: “Having our Morecambe shop means we have seen the changes in the town first-hand over the last two decades. We’re committed to Morecambe and we want to do everything we can to help the community and see the local economy thrive. We want to make Morecambe a better place to work, live and visit. We’ve had a superb 20 years on the promenade, and we’re looking forward to the next 20 years.”
