Mr Adams recipe for wedding cakes needed the very finest quality of cake to succeed. The fruit cakes , once made, would be carefully wrapped and stored for two to three months before being almond-pasted and iced.
For very high class work, said Mr Adams, with best quality cake, finest marzipan, individual designs or special motifs it was necessary to charge much more than the average 8s (eight shillings) per lb. Much depended upon the amount of special work incorporated in the designs, but he charged prices ranging from 15s per lb upwards and this he found essential to cover the high cost of labour involved in designing and executing such cakes.
The pictures show the wedding cake in all its glory and the incredible detailed work involved in making it. Who knows how many cakes Harry and Meghan will have?
